How long is the ferry to Santa Cruz Island?
How long does it take to get to the islands? For Anacapa and Santa Cruz Island, the normal channel crossing time is slightly over one hour. Time can vary because we do stop for wildlife, dolphins and whales.
Can you stay on Santa Cruz Island?
There are NO services or lodging on the islands. Visitors must bring all their own food and water (potable water is available in the Scorpion Canyon campground on Santa Cruz Island and the Water Canyon campground on Santa Rosa Island).
Can you rent kayaks on Santa Cruz Island?
There are no kayaks for rent at the island. You must reserve transport space with Island Packers for rental kayaks. Space is limited to 18 kayaks a day at Scorpion Anchorage by the National Park.

The best Channel Island to visit depends on how long you have & what you want to do/see. If you only have 1 day available then I’d recommend visiting Santa Cruz Island or Anacapa Island.

Given the isolation of the Channel Islands (20+ miles off the coast of California), we encourage all snorkelers to have prior snorkeling experience and be comfortable swimming in the ocean.

If you do your day trip to the Channel Islands with Island Packers, you will have about 6-7 hours on Santa Cruz Island. Island Packers recommends getting to the harbor 45 minutes before the departure time. We got there about 30 minutes before and still had plenty of time to check in and wait before boarding the boat.

Travel Time from Ventura Harbor: Boat trips are 3 hours. Landing Conditions: Boat visitors must climb from the boat up a steel-rung ladder to a pier at Bechers Bay. When the pier is closed, landings are via skiff onto the beach.
